Construction Begins!

Construction is set to get underway on MONDAY! We will have lots of photos to share along the way!

The team has broken into management groups to guide the construction process over the coming week.

As a team we have consulted our community, seeked advice and guidance from experts, sourced materials and all the classes made time capsules to put in the earth seat.

Here are a few insights into how we hope the week will run with an extract from an email we sent all the classes...

The students will get muddy as the mixing of the clay, wood chip, wet newspaper and cement will be done by foot. (much like stomping on grapes) Once the adobe mix is combined we will send for the remaining class members to scoop up and place the mixture on to the Taniwha.

We ask that children come in clothes they are not too fussed about so if you could pre -warn your class of the day they will be helping it would be appreciated. If anyone has some old towels that could be used for clean up please bring them along.

We still would love to include some green and brown glass bottles in the side of the taniwha as decoration. If you can ask your class to bring some along that would be awesome and of course if you have some in your recycling at home we could use those too:)

We really appreciate the help of Mr Callaghan and Mr Marriot.

  1. Good luck next week Team Earth Seat. Look forward to seeing the finished result.
Btw - what was the site chosen as a result of the school wide survey you did?

  2. Hi Renie

School survey showed nearly everyone thought the space by the old admin area/ASC was the best spot. We agreed - teachers could see it, it was a quiet space and was a space with a good 'outlook' and in need of using.

    Thanks
